Hi! Thanks for stopping by. This is a place where I'll chit-chat about my 3 boys, food, losing weight, working out, and just my crazy, busy life. Keep checking back as I work out all the kinks of my brand new blog :)

Crab in my Pants

I stayed home sick from work yesterday. I went to the doctor (which I hate doing and rarely go, even when I should). I knew they were going to tell me I, basically, have a bad cold but since my throat still felt like I was trying to swallow razor blades that had been lit on fire, I decided to err on the side of caution. I had a fever while I was there, but I was right. Just a stupid flu and was told to drink/eat lots of fluids and the doctor gave me some Naproxen (Aleve) for the fever and body aches and told me to get some Zyrtec.

I wish I could say I felt better today, but I really don't. Blah. My spirits were lifted tremendously yesterday evening when my boyfriend surprised me with an order of chicken noodle soup from our favorite little soup place!

So delicious. Definitely hit the "I'm sick and want some homemade chicken soup but don't really feel like making it" spot! That is homemade bread they make also. To die for (which I completely felt like I was going to do). ;) Can I just add that this wasn't exactly "on the way home" for him? This little place is completely on the other side of town. He probably had to go about 40 minutes round trip out of his way to pick up these little gems for me :) I sent him a text about 15 minutes after he should have been home asking if everything was okay. He replied, "traffic :/". Mmmhmm. Right. I was like, there is no way he is stuck in traffic this long because I so would have been hearing about it via text message. :) Sneaky, sneaky. Awesome surprise.

Prior to the amazing soup, all I had eaten for the day was some roasted green beans with a fried egg on top. No, you don't need to re-read that sentence, you read it correctly: roasted green beans topped with a fried egg. I came across this on a blog not too long ago (I think this one?) and thought gross! But for some reason I was intrigued enough to try it a couple weeks ago with roasted Brussels sprouts (side note: did you know they were actually called "Brussels sprouts", not brussel sprouts? I didn't.). Wow...really, really good! The yolk from the egg makes kind of a sauce. That might sound gross to some, but if I order or make pan-fried eggs, I make them "dippy" eggs, so it's perfect for me. I think the technical term for "dippy eggs" is over-medium (I don't like over-easy...that's a little too dippy for me).

Anyway, I needed to eat something and needed to eat something semi-nutritious. Eggs (protein), green beans (veggie). That equals nutrition in my book these days. And, big deal if I cook my green beans in bacon grease. I have Georgia roots. How else am I supposed to cook them? Duh.

(Oh, and if anyone is reading this and happens to be keeping track - that makes 3 out of 4 blog posts that I have talked about eggs.). I'll just keep it to myself, then, that I bought more farm fresh eggs (blue ones this time) at the farmer's market this morning.

Yesterday, after I took a nap and my fever broke, I felt like taking a nice, long bath before I had to leave to get the littlest brothers from school. When I was drying off, something moving caught the corner of my eye in my pile of clothes on the floor. I had been wearing yoga pants prior to my bath and they were balled up folded neatly on the floor of the bathroom. At first, I thought maybe it was a palmetto bug (not to be confused with a roach - we have palmetto bugs in Florida whether your house is pristine or not) crawling up my pants leg. So, I grabbed the pants from the top part and gently shook them with my left hand and was ready to smash the palmetto bug with a flip-flop in my right hand. Oh, but no, it was not a disgusting palmetto bug crawling in my pants. THIS is what staring back at me:

I know. You're absolutely, completely shocked since I gave that away in the title of this blog post. Whatever. There may or may not have been many expletives shouted when I saw this little guy. I wasn't scared or anything. Obviously, considering I had the presence of mind to not only go grab my phone to take a picture, but to grab my phone, take a picture, Instagram it, text it to my mom and Rob, and upload it to Twitter. It was more of a "WHAT IN THE F&^% is a CRAB doing in my PANTS?!?" kind of shouting. Of course, Rob replies with "You have crabs?!" Ha. Ha. I have no idea where the little crab ended up running off to. Or however crabs transport themselves. I swear...this kind of stuff only happens to me.

On the weight loss front, Saturdays are my weigh-in days and I lost 1 pound today! I sooo wanted to lose more than 1 today because that will put me at 20 total. No rush, though. It will happen next week!

This has turned into quite the novel so I'm going to shut up now. Hoping to feel better in the morning so I can make it to Zumba! It's another class that the guy teaches, so I know it will be awesome.

Human Puppy

Wow. I totally suck at this blogging thing already. Two whole days without a post! Geez.

Umm...that's probably because - well - I'm pretty boring. My posts would be all like "Went to work today. Came home. Made dinner. Went to the gym. Came home again. Put the kids to bed. Read Hunger Games." See? Boring.

Which is...pretty much what today's post is all about! Woo! So exciting :)

Anyway. I am so, so lucky to have my mom. Our idiotic wonderful school district does these half days and early release days all the freaking TIME! occasionally. The high school kids go in late (like 12:15 or something) and the elementary/middle school kids get out early (at like 12:15 or something). Smart, right? (No.) Those of us whose lives don't revolve sitting around waiting to transport our children from one place to another are seriously inconvenienced by this stupid schedule. Not to say that it doesn't inconvenience other families who don't have parents who work outside the home, too. Just saying, having a FT job and having to worry about how to get my kids to school and home from school at the same time in the middle of a work day a major pain in the ASS!

Enter my beautiful, amazing, mom! She comes to the rescue pretty much on a daily basis for me and my boys. She works part-time, helps my sister watch my nephews and niece, and picks my kids up from their respective schools EVERY day. Including stupid schedule day. Not to mention, she has what most people would consider a small petting zoo or farm to take care of at her own house, to include a 5 week old kitten that she has literally nursed (well, ew...not literally literally, but like from a little dropper thingy) back to health since she was abandoned at a few days old.
Ms. Wendy. The most adorable kitten in the world.

Wendy and Jack. The most awesome cat in the world with the most adorable kitten in the world.

Sorry. That's my rant for the day.

Speaking of getting out early from school, I ended up leaving work early today, too. My throat feels like I'm swallowing nails or something. Hoping this doesn't turn into anything. I don't get sick very often, but when I do, it's usually a doozy! I came home and tried to nap a little before picking Christopher up from the train after Cross Country practice, but Andrew (my 7 year old) kept needing help with his homework and, surprisingly, I was starving. I made some "zucchini eggs" (just sauteed zucchini then scrambled 1 egg + 1 egg white with it) with a little avocado. Hm. 2 out of 3 blog posts mentioning eggs. I am the Most. Interesting. Person. Ever.

A food blogger photographer I am not.

Hey, it was like protein and veggies and healthy fats. Or something. Anyway, hit the spot and was pretty easy to swallow.

This is our entertainment when we eat.

Meet Muggle (and my laundry).

I'll have to post a video of him someday. He sits like that when we are eating and waves his little paws at us. He does it sometimes just for the hell of it. Hilarious. He's a chihuahua we adopted two years ago and has been a great little dog. I have never been a little dog person, but he's pretty awesome. He rarely barks!
Watchin TV

It's hard to really tell in that picture, but he does this all the time. He gets himself under the covers and maneuvers himself so he is laying like a human; head out of the covers and on some type of "pillow". Hilarious, I tell you. If you're familiar with Harry Potter, his name could not fit him more perfectly. Muggles are basically "humans" and our Muggle is so much like a human sometimes. He was named before we witnessed any of his little human tendencies, just ended up working out that way.

Well, that is more than enough babbling for one day!

Shake it For Me

Wow. It's late.

Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. The boys got up and ready without much effort. Keeping my fingers crossed - this is the 4th week of school and they've been doing really well so far. No having to go back and make sure someone hasn't fallen back asleep, no screaming at my oldest to get out of his hour long shower, and I've only had to remind them to get their snacks and put papers in their backpacks - oh - about 6 times :) Work flew by really quickly also.

Tonight is the late Zumba class at my gym. It starts at 8:30. It is SO hard to get home from work, make dinner, sit around and watch Food Network clean up around the house, then get back out the door 3 hours later to go the gym. Tonight, I got to the gym about 15 minutes early so I hopped on the elliptical. The Voice was on, so I plugged in my headphones and watched a little of that. Before I knew it, it was 8:35 and I looked over and saw that Zumba was about to start (there is usually an overlap because of other classes getting out). I was really tempted to just do another 30 minutes or so on the elliptical and call it a night. At the last minute, I decided to just go to the class. Best decision ever. It was an awesome class! I love this Zumba teacher - he's a guy teacher! I don't know why that fascinates me; I've just never had a guy Zumba teacher. He is fantastic.

Tonight's class was made even more fantastic when this happened:

Luke Bryan - Country Girl (Shake it For Me)

Yep! He totally had us split into two groups, facing each other, and did a line dance to Luke Bryan's Country Girl (Shake it For Me). It was so much fun. I don't even really listen to country music anymore and I loved it. It seemed like the whole class did, too. He does a routine to Tina Turner's Proud Mary too. Awesome.

Time to hit the shower and try to actually get to sleep at a decent time tonight! Yeah right.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Let's see what this blogging thing is all about!

I cannot believe this weekend is already over! How come Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday never go by as quickly as Saturday and Sunday?? Can't even say I was particularly busy this weekend. I worked overtime last night but, surprisingly, that usually makes the weekends seem longer. I went to the Farmer's Market with my mom yesterday morning and got some awesome produce for the week.

I was entirely too excited about these farm fresh eggs, though! They were the coolest shade of blue. These are my mom's. Mine were brown. I learned that the color of their shells is determined by what kind of chicken hatched them. Heh. Who knew? Probably everyone but me, but whatever. Our eggs had only been hatched the day before! Told you - I was way too excited about these eggs. Not something I can buy every week. These 6 eggs cost what 18 eggs cost at the grocery store. :/

When I got home from the farmer's market, I took the two littlest boys to the pool for a little bit.

Pondering life. Or something. :)

Today was one big lazy day. A much needed one too! Of course, around 8:00 tonight, I started remembering everything I needed to get done today; laundry, sign some papers for the boys' schools, pack my oldest son's lunch, and get my breakfast ready for the morning (Almond Joy Overnight Oats! YUM). I got the original recipe here, but I sort of just make my own version now.

(source) psh...I WISH mine looked that yummy :)
Time for me to finish that laundry, make that lunch, and sign those papers. Oh, you can be sure the oatmeal is already chilling in the fridge. :)
